Liddes (Saint Bernard), Valais. 1,345m
Located just a short drive away from both the Italian and French Alpine borders, Liddes is a paradise for nature lovers and winter sports enthusiasts in the French-speaking side of canton Valais in Switzerland.
Valais (or Wallis in German) is a bilingual canton in the south of Switzerland, famed for its Alpine mountains, breathtaking scenery and it's world class winter sports facilities. The region is characterised by what is perhaps Switzerland's most famous landmark, the Matterhorn.
Just a 5 minute bus ride from our chalet, there is a small, local skiing area with 3 ski lifts, ideal for beginners and lower intermediates. Take a 20 minute drive in the car and you'll arrive in Verbier - 4 Vallées, home to the largest ski area that's entirely within Swiss borders that boasts 92 lifts, 412 km of slopes at altitudes ranging from 1350 to 3400 meters.
Our very own chalet!
Our spacious chalet "Relais de Dranse", renovated in 2014, is situated in Liddes, in a wonderfully quiet location on the Dranse, a headstream of the river Rhone, about 5 minutes below the pass road to the Aosta Valley in Italy. Sprawling countryside and no passing traffic make it an absolutely perfect to relax in comfort and warmth following a hard day's skiing. When it comes to sleeping, our chalet has a range of bedrooms that sleep between 4 and 8 persons in comfortable bunkbeds.
